Joe Shanks is a 3rd year student at the University of Iowa majoring in Jazz Guitar and Electrical Engineering. He has been playing a smorgasbord of instruments since a young age and began formally studying jazz guitar six years ago. At UIowa, Joe is now studying improvisation, music theory, and composition with Steve Grismore, William Menefield, and Damani Phillips.
He enjoys playing around town regularly at venues including Gabe’s and Elray’s with a variety of jazz, rock, and funk groups. Joe has been teaching privately for several years and is loving teaching at Brock Family Music!
